Drywall Repair

Holes in drywall can occur for a number of different reasons, and many people have various ways of tackling drywall repair. Some ways are more effective than others at keeping the cost down and drywall intact for a long time to come. If you have minor damage to your drywall, then the following method will get the job done quickly and efficiently, and almost anyone can do it.

Drywall Repair For Minor Damage

If you need to repair drywall that has had damage from nails or small bangs, then you can easily do this with some spackle and some sandpaper. First, you have to sand down the damaged area to create a smooth surface. Next, apply a small amount of spackle to the damaged area with a putty knife and ensure that the hole is completely filled and as smooth as possible. Let the spackle dry for about 24 hours. Once dry, take your sandpaper and smooth out the spackle to create an even surface between the drywall and the spackle.

That’s all there is to it. Now you can paint over the area or leave it alone for future painting.

Some Extra Tips

Buy a quality brand of spackling paste as well as a few different widths of putty knives. This will ensure that you are prepared for any future damage that occurs.

Keep moisture away from your spackle and close the lid back up tightly. That will ensure you can use your spackle for a long time to come.

It is recommended that you use a dust mask or a respirator to protect your lungs when you are sanding. Even small amounts of dust can have a negative effect on your lungs.

You can tape a bag under the area where you are sanding to catch the dust as it falls. This will reduce cleanup. Use the gritty side of the sandpaper to sand away excess spackle and then use the finer side to smooth it down.
